The Marrying Kind

(Owen & Nathan 02)

Jay Northcote

Nathan wants to put a ring on it, but is Owen the marrying kind?

Two years on from their first date, Owen and Nathan are living together and life is good—except they’re not on the same page about marriage.

A traditionalist at heart, Nathan wants it all: the wedding, the vows, and a pair of matching rings. Owen, on the other hand, believes marriage is old-fashioned and unnecessary. They don’t need a wedding to prove their commitment to each other. Love should be enough on its own.

All it takes is one moment of weakness on a night out to force the issue. Owen finds himself engaged after a half-drunk proposal, and Nathan’s enthusiasm sweeps him along. But as the big day approaches, the mounting tension finally combusts.

If he’s going to save their relationship, Owen will need to decide once and for all if he’s truly the marrying kind.

Review: This is the 2nd edition and other than some minor editing there are no changes. This book is part of a series and must be read in order. Andrea Speed, I will bow down before you, as you have created a series that just leaves you wanting more; it hasn’t got old or stuck in a rut. It is still fresh and creative even though this is the 4th in the series and books 7 & 8 (Freefall & Blood Letting). I would recommend that the series be read in order or you will get lost as there are references to the earlier stories.

Roan is back and after receiving Eli’s computer, he is being harassed and threatened by the Church of the Divine Transformation as they want the information stored on the computer.  He doesn’t take them serious until Dylan is targeted. Dylan is worried about Roan as he is addicted to pain pills and he wonders if Roan will ever let go of his love for Paris and love him.

This is a brilliant piece of work. I love that being a shifter in this is not easy and you get a great description of how it feels to change. Roan has a lot of problems that he has to overcome and one of those is to sort out his tangled feelings for Dylan. With Dylan, although he is a great character you just don’t quite feel like he is the right partner for Roan (I really can’t even tell you why I feel that way).

We see a lot more of Holden (Fox) in this one and he is brilliant. I hope we get to see even more of him in the next book. Roan, ah, Roan is such a complex character even to himself.  Trying to reconcile the changes to himself, how he feels for Dylan, the loss of Paris and Connor, his drug use and the migraines, headaches and sharp stabbing pain in his head.

The storylines are solid and interesting. The characters are brilliant.  There is no sex but as in the other books it is inferred.

I will recommend this to those who love paranormal, fantasy, alternative worlds, great story-lines and a happy for now ending but the knowledge that there is more to come.

Shorty’s Review: ♥♥♥♥ 3.75 Hearts

Thomas is part of a vampire family that is constantly at war with the Grummeli’s who make drones that are soulless killing machines to be their pawns. It kind of confused me the way this book started with Thomas waiting for Daniel to wake after he changed him not to mention Thomas constantly thinking of his past lover, Jacob, who was murdered.

But then things became clearer as the story unfolded telling of the past and what transpired to cause Thomas to be alone for 200 years until he meets Daniel. The war that was started causing chaos and mayhem was the result of what I consider a family’s greed for more power than they didn’t deserve. Great action scenes as well as a love story of two men trying to survive and keep the past from repeating itself.

Thomas and Daniel seemed well suited together and I loved both their characters. I really enjoyed reading the differences between a drone, a made vampire and a born vampire. The details intrigued me. Well written this story draws the reader into reading more to find out what is going on as well as what the outcome will be.

Really good read.

Pixie’s Review: ♥♥♥♥ 4 Hearts

This story is the 2nd edition and is mainly the same except for the epilogue, the added extra leave the way open for the next story. Thomas has refused to love for two hundred years. The loss of his lover, Jacob, to the Drones scarred him deeply and he hasn’t been able to give his heart again. Since then Thomas has sworn to destroy the Drones who want to wipe out his family, the Royal vampire family, but one night his world is turned on end when he meets Daniel. Daniel won’t take no for an answer and Daniel stumbles into Thomas’ world of danger, but Daniel knows what he wants and he wants eternity with the vampire he loves.

This story is a pretty good vampire story of love and determination. The story starts now, as Thomas is turning his lover Daniel, we get his worry and his feelings of love for Daniel and the loving support of Thomas’ family. It then goes back into the past to when Thomas and Daniel first met and the beginning of their relationship; we see how their attraction is instant but the different reactions to that attraction by the two men. Thomas pushes Daniel away, determined to keep him from his dangerous world, and Daniel is gung-ho on pursuing Thomas.

We get a very good feel for the history of the war between the vampires and the Drones and the reason behind it all, we see the danger that stalks the vampires and can fully understand Thomas’ reluctance to bring another lover into his world. Daniel falls into the world anyway and you admire his determination to pursue what he wants, even when he is scared. Their relationship is rocky at first but evens out when Thomas opens his heart, but, that doesn’t mean it is all perfect because Daniel wants forever and Thomas still wants to keep Daniel safe from his world.

While Daniel and Thomas’ relationship progresses there is still the war with the Drones going on and we see the development of that as well, the losses and how it effects the characters, the devastation and the determination to wipe out the Drones. We also get to see the end of the war in an unusual conclusion.

So I found this story to be full of action, love and worry. I am gonna have to recommend this to those who love vampires at war, finding and accepting love in trying conditions, hot sex and sweet love and a great ending.

Blurb: Hunter Wolf is a highly paid Las Vegas escort with a face and body that have men salivating and paying a great deal for him to fulfill their fantasies. He keeps his own fantasies to himself, not that they matter.

Grant is an elementary-school teacher who works miracles with his summer school students. He discovered his gift while in high school, tutoring Hunter, a fellow student. They meet again when Hunter rescues Grant in a club. Grant doesn’t know Hunter is an escort or that they share similarly painful pasts involving family members’ substance abuse.

After the meeting, Hunter invites Grant to one of the finest restaurants in Las Vegas. Hunter is charming, sexy, and gracious, and Grant is intrigued. With more in common than they realized, the two men decide to give a relationship a try. At first, Grant believes he can deal with Hunter’s profession and accepts that Hunter will be faithful with his heart if not his body. Both men find their feelings run deeper than either imagined. Review: Hunter Wolf works as an escort in the city that never sleeps. While one might think sex is a given with every client, more often than not Hunter fulfills their needs in other ways. Actually listening to them, seeing past scars to the true beauty someone holds, even being a friend. He has an uncanny ability to read people and he uses that to his advantage. It’s made him a name as one of the most sought after escorts in Vegas. When he and his co-workers head to a new night club to scope it out as a possible place to take clients, Hunter has an unexpected but pleasant run in with an old friend.

Grant is working as a teacher in Vegas largely in part to his friendship with Hunter when they were in high school. Grant tutored Hunter and not only was he good at it, he enjoyed it, and so he became a teacher. The two begin a tentative relationship and they are both very open and honest with each other. Grant is wary of Hunter’s occupation in the beginning, but his ever-growing feelings make it impossible not to pursue a relationship. Hunter, however, is so scared he will hurt Grant, fearful of letting down his guard and letting someone in. Grant is willing to risk it all for a chance at love with Hunter, but is the feeling mutual?

I loved the simplicity of this story. The main focus is on Grant and Hunter, their pasts and how they are linked, and the possibility of a future. The obstacles they have to overcome in order to be together. In the beginning I was a little miffed with Hunter and his constant need to fix something that wasn’t broken, but I finally realized that he was what was broken. He had built this wall up around him for fear of being vulnerable, of being hurt. While he successfully kept the pain out, he risked blocking his chance at happiness as well.

What Grey did with the character of Hunter was amazing. He created this guy that was unapologetically gay, sometimes cocky but not conceited, more like convinced. Hunter was sexy and in demand, but he was still a nice guy that put other’s feelings before his. And he was that way in high school as well. When the bullies picked on Grant, Hunter stood up for him, uncaring of what they thought. It was very refreshing to see a male lead that wasn’t the bully or conceited, someone who needed to be knocked down a notch or two before they can be happy. Hunter’s flaw was that he was always waiting for the other shoe to drop.

Another great story from the mesmerizing mind of Andrew Grey. I just want to live inside his head for a day. Can he be John Malkovich for 24 hours so that I can do that? If you are a fan of his work, this is a given. But hopeless romantics that like their big, broody alpha male to have a heart of gold will really enjoy this new story that promises to be a series. Grey wove several secondary characters into the mix and I’m quite excited to read their stories as well. Especially Ember, one word, YUM!!!!

Blurb: Brett Shackley came to Hollywood for a taste of the fast life and hot, famous men. He never expected to find love behind the scenes.

Brett Shackley has watched his best friend find love with a famous actor. His connections have also given him the opportunity to work as a personal assistant to another Who’s-Who in Hollywood. He’s a bit flamboyant and perhaps a tad too giddy when he settles on a new celebrity crush. So blinded by the brilliance of the bright lights headliner, he fails to see what’s right before his eyes.

Brett follows his boss to yet another movie set, preparing to scope out the new faces on the latest project. Sadly, it also means he’s sidelined with all the other assistants and behind the camera crew. Brett doesn’t mind too much as long as a certain actor gets a shirtless scene—and soon!

Eddie Huff has been around a couple of years. He knows a thing or two about playing it cool. The fact that Brett, a fellow personal assistant to the stars, is going gaga over Eddie’s A-list boss annoys him. What’s worse is that he now has to stay in close proximity with Brett. He gets to hear each longing sigh and flattering gush of superlatives— every single day. It’s enough to drive a guy insane.

What’s worse is, Eddie begins to suspect that he might be just a teeny bit jealous that Brett’s single-minded attention is wasted on a star who couldn’t care less about anyone except himself.

Eddie thinks Brett might be the man for him. Now he has to convince the starry-eyed novice that the right heartthrob for the part isn’t the guy in front of the camera.

Review: First off, I feel the need to point out the possibly unnecessarily long blurb on this relatively quick read. But I suppose that is neither here nor there. So onto the story…

This is book 3 in Mia Watts’ Hollywood Hotties series and it is definitely my favourite. You don’t need to have read either book 1 or 2 to know what is happening and each book focuses on a different couple. However, the couple from the first book (Ryan and Dar) are mentioned quite a number of times that it might actually help to know their story.

I looked forward to this one and I was not let down, particularly since I had some issues with book 2, but loved book 1 of this series! When I saw the blurb I thought “finally! Brett has his own story!” – he is in book 1 as the friend of one MC and starts his fledgling Hollywood career in book 2. Brett is a six-foot teddy bear who is star stuck at the least provocation, especially now that he is a personal assistant to a popular actor.

On one of his first major jobs on a film set he meets another personal assistant, Eddie. Eddie is rather jaded and has been in the business a while. Brett’s somewhat innocent personality and Eddie’s jadedness work well together. The sexual tension is somewhat bolstered by some rather sweet yet sexy flirting between the guys.

I really enjoyed the emotion of this one and I have to say is the perfect complement to the first book of the series. The concept of Hollywood Hotties is a win but on paper it is a fun romance.
