Review: I just love this story. Out of all the characters in this series and collection I relate to Artie the most. I love his sweetness yet his power. There is a lot of mystery and intrigue as he finds out more of his past. As usual we get to see more of the others. I love Laurant’s charisma and how he is being more human than ever helping Artie plan for his wedding and being comic relief for the deep dark storyline.

I will say the ending blew me away and I cannot wait to see what comes next.

If you like physics, vampires, mystery and intrigue this is for you!

Blurb: When Eli Block steps into his parents’ living room and sees his childhood crush sitting on the couch, he starts a shameless campaign to seduce the young rabbi.

Unfortunately, Seth Cohen barely remembers Eli and he resolutely shuts down all his advances. As a tenuous and then binding friendship forms between the two men, Eli must find a way to move past his unrequited love while still keeping his best friend in his life. Not an easy feat when the same person occupies both roles.

Professional, proper Seth is shocked by Eli’s brashness, overt sexuality, and easy defiance of societal norms. But he’s also drawn to the happy, funny, light-filled man. As their friendship deepens over the years, Seth watches Eli mature into a man he admires and respects.

When Seth finds himself longing for what Eli had so easily offered, he has to decide whether he’s willing to veer from his safe life-plan to build a future with Eli.

Review: Eli Block has known who he is and who he wants since he was eleven years old. Six years later that person is not only back in his life, but in his living room. Too bad Seth doesn’t even remember young Eli. Not one to give up when he sets his mind to it, Eli pulls out all the stops in an effort to make Seth notice him.

Eventually Eli takes a step back and goes through the motions of living his life. He graduates, goes to college and gets his degree in Music and Teaching, has a series of boyfriends, but nothing or no one every truly replaces the longing he holds for Seth.

Seth Cohen has always kept Eli at arm’s length, always tried to convince himself that he is not gay. When Eli extends an olive branch, asking to be friends, Seth graciously accepts and the two become best friends. They talk about everything, and when the time comes, Eli helps Seth pick out his home.

As the years pass and Seth stands on the sideline watching Eli grow, make mistakes and try to learn from them, he also watches Eli become a man. A man who Seth is starting to think he wants to be more than just friends with.

I really adored Eli Block. He was tenacious, loyal and unwavering in his love for Seth. It took Seth a while to get on board, and early on I could completely understand why. Seth wasn’t in a place to openly admit or accept being attracted to another man, and there was the age difference.

But once Seth’s feelings started to change, it annoyed me that he went out of his way not to talk to Eli about it. I loved the chapter headers in this book, the comic relief with the various weddings and the shenanigans that people got up to. I think the fish graveyard reception was perhaps my favorite.

This is the first book narrated by Alexander Collins I’ve listened to and I wasn’t really impressed. At times I couldn’t tell who was talking, Seth or Eli, he chose such similar tones for the two main characters and that was confusing and frustrating. He seemed to put more effort into the secondary characters than Seth and Eli. I won’t say I wouldn’t listen to another book he voices, but I don’t think I’ll go out of my way to grab something of his either.

The story itself was pretty good, as I said, the sort of angst aspect with Seth figuring out his sexuality and keeping Eli in the dark bothered me, but overall I thought the writing and concept were great… the narration, not so much.

Review: This was an amazing book about two young men having to learn to trust one another despite their emotions for one another in the beginning. I have to say it really disturbed me that Prince Rowan blamed Prince Astrin for his parents’ death. He was too young to have done anything to them so I did not understand or comprehend his resentment for Astrin. I felt it was misplaced.

Prince Astrin I felt sorry for. Being held hostage by someone who despised him was not pleasant in the least. I wanted to hug him and tell him to stay strong everything would be alright. Astrin struck me as a strong young man despite the predicament he found himself in. He seemed resilient and determined at times.

Some of the scenes were sweet between these two once they learned to trust the other. Others had me holding my breath or gasping in astonishment. Wonderfully written, this story holds the reader’s attention to the very end.

I loved the entire story and the balance between good and bad so to speak. Absolutely fantastic story.

Highly recommended.

Review: Erik Heat is a former Hockey Player that was forced to leave that dream behind when he got injured. He worked the oil fields for a while; until some co-workers found out he was gay and decided to play a prank that went too far. Now he works as a plumber for temporary housing.

Luther Almond has spent his life running, constantly on the move. His job in the oil field offers him the opportunities to move from place to place, hook up with random guys no strings attached, and make a pretty penny while he’s doing it. When Luther and Erik hook up for one of those no strings attached romps, neither man thinks it could become anything more.

But then one night becomes, two, then three, which turns into sexting and friends who can talk to each other, help each other out. Soon, it threatens to become something permanent… if both men can learn how to bend.

This was just a fast fun read. I love those one night stand stories that turn into something more real and passionate, which is what happens for Luther and Erik. They understand each other in a way no-one else seems to, they fit together. There was a bit of angst and not communicating which annoyed me a bit, but overall I really enjoyed this short, sexy, romantic story.

I’d recommend it if you are looking for quickie, I blew through it in no time at all, and it left a smile on my face.

Blurb: Belail felt the tension in Bla’Gar’s mansion the moment he appeared in the demon’s bedroom.

Such a shame, Bla’Gar had royally fucked up with his pet.

He played the Komboskini back and forth in his hand for a second time. The souls forced into amber beads heated and smoked, a wailing scream rang from them before two of the beads burst.
Glowering at the shattered souls on the carpet, white smoke dancing towards him. Belails’s stomach cramped at that very moment.

What was foretold would soon unfold. The little one perceived it.
Breathing in the white smoke Belail could not pinpoint it but he could smell…shortbread cookies, hollies, spruce and snow? Christmas? No…with a sly chuckle he silently whispered. “The Winter Ball.”

But the smells were tainted with blood—human blood. The ball would not end in all white glory, this time in blood and death.

Review: This is a continuation of book 1 in the series. Very well written story. Action, drama and mystery all throughout.

Another murder happens and Raven, a human, gets a new partner who is a pyro. The details of the murder and what caused it are grisly. Bla’Gar, a demon, attempts to get closer to Raven. A lot happens in this wonderful story.

Raven is attacked by a hellhound in his family’s home and injured. He’s also attacked by some creature at the end of the book and blacks out. This book ends in a cliffhanger. Really enjoyed the whole book. Kept my attention from the beginning to the end.

Great read.

Review: Hot Corner is a thoroughly enjoyable novel by Heidi Champa, whose books I’ve always loved to read. However, while this is not strictly a sports themed book, this is a fun read for lovers of the genre.

The story is told from the POV of Jeremy Woodard. He seems to be floundering a bit when we meet him. He has a somewhat toxic relationship with his on-again, off-again boyfriend, Josh, where they are both very selfish personalities.

To get away, he has been convinced by his BFF, David, to join him in Nashville at some sort of minor league meeting where people apply for a variety of jobs within the different teams. From there Jeremy is on his own little adventure where he meets love interests Trevor (one of the players) and Theo (the mascot).

There is a lot of “will-they, won’t-they” and quite a lot of indecision as Jeremy settles into his new position for the baseball team the Chesapeake Bay Retrievers. One of the things that make this story wonderful is that despite his apparent selfishness, Jeremy really grows quite a lot as a character by the end of the book.

The characters that sound Jeremy – mainly David, Josh, Trevor and Theo – are really interesting guys. They’re definitely as complex as Jeremy, they all seem to be main characters in their own right and I think it would and part of me wanted to know more about the guys left behind.

There aren’t a lot of sports, there’s a lot of indecision and words left unspoken, but it all culminates into a more than satisfying ending.

Blurb: The phoenix stood over the Raven, scorched sand as far as the eye could see, the heavens burning with a dark flame.

The phoenix glared. “What has been, will become present. What shall be, will become memory.”

The little Raven threw back a taunt. “Life and death are locked together in an infinite circle, spinning and chasing one another, forever trying to catch up.”

“Uroboros.” The phoenix laughed. “Your curse is your salvation.”
Before its final moment the Raven pushed out a whisper. “Death was not mine, it was never for me, only the beginning of my tale.”

With a scream and flick of the phoenix’s wings, the world blinked out of existence, white neon consuming all that could see.
All that remained was a faint childlike chant, wandering on the hellfire breeze.

“Taste life, little Raven…drink from its tit…so beautiful, so sweet, and ever so dark.”

Review: This is a continuation of book 2. I really liked the story except for the m/f part as I’m an m/m reader only so I skipped that part. I was intrigued after Raven’s death that it seemed he had a dream or something similar then came back but as a strigoli not a human.

Intense and well written I enjoyed it very much. Still wondering who is experimenting on paranormals though. This book ends in a cliffhanger. Good read.

Review: I’m not really sure what to think about this book in the end. In general, I enjoy reading D.W. Marchwell books, and yes, it is true that I enjoyed this book.

However, as to the plot itself I find myself rather torn. I’ve decided that this comes down to the way that the book was written. On reflection, I was written fabulously. Although my first instinct was correct in what was going to happen to the main characters involved in the love triangle, I found myself second guessing my instinct a number of times.

The story is about Anders, he’s been with (and married to) Leighton for twenty-odd years. These guys have been together since they were first in college and now they are both in their forties. It’s not so much that Anders and Leighton have fallen out of love, but their needs have changed. I know that it sounds clichéd, but that is the best way to describe what is happening to these guys.

Anders loves teaching but Leighton is wholly determined in his political career to the point that he is spending less and less time at home. Then Anders bumps into Ron, the father of a student he taught years ago, Anders finds the new attraction he has with Ron scorching hot.

At first I felt sorry for Anders… then I felt sorry for Leighton… then I felt sorry for Anders again… then I thought “stay with Leighton” … then I thought, “oh for Christ’s sake, Leighton doesn’t deserve you, go with Ron”… there was a lot more of this going on throughout, I could not put the book down at all until I finished.

These characters are just so real and easily relatable, which I think adds to the confusion and my thought processes above. Anders is a sweet guy who isn’t looking for something beyond what he has, although he would dearly love to see his husband more.

Leighton is ambitious and occasionally aloof, though it is easy to see that on some level he does indeed love his husband. Ron is a wonderful friend and the voice of reason – he doesn’t want to break Anders and Leighton apart and is happy enough being in Anders life as nothing more than a friend if that was what it took.

This is all about love and loyalty and knowing what is good for you, even if sometimes what you want and what you need are two different things.

(A Strain Novel)

Amelia C. Gormley

The weapon that nearly destroyed humanity may be their only salvation.

Rhys Cooper’s unique immunity to all three strains of the virus that nearly annihilated humanity has brought him the unwanted attention of Clean Zone scientists. They’ve summoned him for testing—ostensibly in the hopes of finding a vaccine—but Rhys’s partner, Darius Murrell, has good reason not to trust any government. He and his comrades in Delta Company were unwitting test subjects for Project Juggernaut, the military experiment that gave them superhuman abilities and unleashed the pandemic. Doubting the government’s intentions, Delta Company refuses to let Rhys go alone.

Fear of infection has kept Zach Houtman and his lover Nico Fernández apart for a decade. They meet rarely, just long enough to coordinate their spying on the head of the government’s virus research division. Secretary Littlewood is a vicious predator, and they suspect he’s trying to acquire the strain of the virus that would make him superhuman. To stop him, they need the perfect bait: Rhys.

For Rhys, helping them might cost him his relationship with Darius—or his life. For Zach and Nico, even if their plan succeeds, they still face the ultimate question: can infected and uninfected people ever live together safely?

When he is betrothed against his will to Prince Sky, Puck flees to his father in the human world, only to have Sky follow.

Prince Sky Song of the Clouds isn’t thrilled with the prospect of marriage either, but is bound by duty to follow through. If he can’t win Puck over, the faery realm might very well dissolve into utter chaos. Too busy arguing, Puck and Sky are unaware there are others with a vested interest in seeing the betrothal fail.

In a bid for Puck’s crown, they’ll seek to keep them apart, even as Puck and Sky realize that duty and love don’t always have to be mutually exclusive.

Review: Betrothed: A Faery Tale is exactly what the title says and it was also a totally enjoyable book. Being that it was also the first book I’ve read by Therese Woodson, I don’t think I’d be opposed to reading more of her works. I loved the emotions of the MCs (very relatable) and in general I just loved the sweet romance that was told.

The story is about Prince Chrysanths, aka “Puck” (yes, like Shakespeare) of the Asteraceae and heir apparent to the Earthern/Wood faery throne. He also happens to be half human. And any keen biologist may also realise, there’s lots of flower scientific classification involved too (Asteraceae is the class which includes flowers like Chrysanthemums).

Seriously, it gave this biologist here a thrill. He is sweet but he also has the tendency to be a bit spoilt, he is a child of two worlds (he visits his dad on the earth plane) but he hasn’t quite found his place in life yet.

Enter Prince Sky Song of the Clouds – and you guessed it, he’s of the type of faery associated with the element air. He’s a strong, silent and stoic sort of guy and knows that he must do his duty – to his family and his people.

There’s plenty of back story in the book itself which should satisfy any reader, but suffice to say that these two princes as part of a treaty must marry (hence the title). What starts as a selfish turn by Puck ends up to be an adventure that both princes needed and (most importantly) use the time to get to know each other before they tie the knot.

I really loved this book. It’s more than just a fantasy involving faeries. It’s also about fitting in and essentially gaining the maturity to grow up. The guys are easy to relate to, I especially like Sky’s character and their emotions are strong. The chemistry between the couple is also smoking, with the sexual tension maintained throughout the story.

This is the type of feel good novel that any reader of the paranormal/fantasy genre is sure to enjoy.

Life has been treating Victor Kalinski well, which is a surprise for the ginger-haired forward with the venomous tongue. His career is somewhat stable, at least for another season. His relationship with Cougars alternate captain Dan Arou is deepening, despite the fact that Daniel has yet to come out of the closet.

It’s typical Kalinski luck when a puck bunny he shared a drunken night with several months ago slaps him with a paternity suit. Despite the sizzling passion and painfully heartfelt connection between them, Dan doesn’t take the news well, and heads back to Canada alone.

If he wants to make things right and win back the man he loves, he has no choice but to swallow his pride—and nobody’s prouder than hot-headed, ego-driven Victor.

Review: This is a bit of a funny and quirky story by AJ Llewellyn and DJ Manly.

After being caught with his pants down (with the boss’s son, no less), celebrated New Orleans homicide detective Montana Delray is punished by being sent down to the precinct (the 77th) where all the crazies work (I’m sure there’s a nicer way I could say that but that’s the thing). Down at the 77th precinct Montana meets some rather interesting characters, including Joe Hunter – aka Crazy Joe – who is a psychic.

This was a fun story with rather bizarre circumstances revolving around the crime in the main plot. But really, it made the story funnier. Montana is an ordinary sort of guy thrown into extraordinary circumstances. After being a strait-laced sort of guy he’s been thrown in the land of the crazies.

There is definitely some sexual sparks between Montana and Joe but the romantic side of the story is rushed compared to the “policing” part of the story. That was a bit disappointing, I’d like more relationship about how these two oddballs fit together.

This is a quirky and totally funny quick(ish) read. Those not familiar with the authors’ their writing style or story structure will probably be a little disappointed by the distinct lack of a definite HEA ending, and as I said earlier the romance was rushed.

However, fans of AJ Llewellyn and DJ Manly will certainly enjoy the story and will expect the rushed nature of the story.

Review: Short, Sexy and Steamy… my three favorite colors!!! It’s been a while since I’ve said that about a novella. And it’s been a while since we last got to visit with David and catch up on his dating shenanigans. David is still holding to the plan, 52 first dates, and one for every week for a year.

There have been some steamy hookups, some bad blind dates, and a set of twins that were promising for a while there. Now we have Mr. Toronto, who is travelling all the way to London for a date with David.

David finds himself another couple to play with in this latest episode, not twins this time… a couple that like to keep their options open. He still has to play babysitter to his best friend, and let me tell you, that poor girl cannot hold her alcohol!

Then there is the impending visit with the sexy man from Toronto that David has been sexting with. Is the sultry Canadian Mr. Right? Or just Mr. Right now? And what happens to the pact David made with himself if they hit it off? Only time will tell!
