Review: Each book in the Carlisle Cop’s collection features a new romantic couple. To enjoy the overall story arc and crossover characters, I would recommend reading the series in sequential order.

Andrew Grey is one of the first male writers that I have not only read, but knew that I would continue to read.  In fact this series was the first one I had read that caught my attention and I knew I wanted to read them all.  They are entertaining and have the best tone for the story.  It caught my attention from the start and kept it all the way to the end.  This is one of those books that make me forget what I am doing other than reading.

Robin was kicked out of his home when he confessed that he was gay.  His mother just had not stuck up with him, when his step-father demanded him to leave.  Then he lost his job and was about to lose his room.  He tried to do the one thing that could guarantee his money, too bad he was just not the type to do it.

Dwayne saves Robin from a beating, and then finds out that the poor kid is now the victim of a rent scam.  The guy just couldn’t get any luck going.  So Dwayne knows he must step in and help.  I won’t tell you anymore, because you really need to read this book.  There is a big old twist that will shock the crap out of you.

I had a lot of fun reading this and cannot wait for the next book to come out.  I had to go back and read the previous books to this series just for fun.  The characters are so fully developed that it will fill like you know them, and the action is packed full.  I would definitely recommend this book.

(Love’s Charter 02)
by

Andrew Grey

To achieve happiness, they’ll have to find the courage to be their own men.

As first mate on a charter fishing boat, Billy Ray meets a lot of people, but not one of them has made him as uncomfortable as Skippy—because he’s drawn to Skippy as surely as the moon pulls the tides, and he’s almost as powerless to resist. Billy Ray has spent his life denying who he is to avoid the wrath of his religious father, and he can’t allow anyone to see through his carefully built façade.

Skippy is only in town on business and will have to return to Boston once he’s through. But he doesn’t count on Billy Ray capturing his attention and touching his heart. After all, his father has certain expectations, and one of them is not him staying in Florida.

Billy Ray doesn’t realize just how much he and Skippy have in common, though. They’re both living to please their fathers instead of following their own dreams—a fact that becomes painfully obvious when they get to know each other and realize how much joy they’ve denied themselves. While they can’t change the past, they can begin a future together and make up for lost time—as long as they’re willing to face the consequences of charting their own course.

Pat didn’t bother telling him the conception had already gone through and little Emma was on her way. He didn’t want a relationship based on obligation. He’d rather raise his daughter on his own.

Review: I absolutely adore Poppy’s Secret. It is part of Dreamspun Desires, which are contemporary stories with sweet romances and hot but flawed heroes. It is safe to say that I devour each and every addition to the series, regardless of the author. For me Andrew Grey is always a go to on my list of authors I must read. He has a way with emotion and getting the reader (or at least me) to connect to his characters’ emotions with his magical use of words. Add to the audio with narration by John Solo and I’m set because this is an audio artist who can nail the voice and emotion of the characters in the story.

I have to admit, as much as I love Poppy’s Secret, I figured out the titular secret in no time at all. However, that did not take away from me loving the story and crying for probably half of the book. Because ultimately this story is about mistakes, second chances and true love. *sigh*.

This is a wonderful story of everlasting love, strength and reunion. Andrew Grey fans will not be disappointed, this one reminds me in part of some of the installments from his Senses series, which I adore. I also love how Andrew Grey weaves in themes of love and family – often with a child character who is being raised by a strong single father until the love interest enters the picture.

As for the story itself, it’s quite predictable in the way that you can just see exactly what is going to happen or at least figure out the facts/secrets between the two MCs. It’s the how and the why of the story which makes this book a ride worth taking. Nine years ago Pat and Edge had been head over heels in love and planning for a surrogate to start a family. But Edge got cold feet and left their small town home for Boston and never looked back. Yet in the present, he is back in Harrisburg and one thing on his list is definitely trying to make up for the mistake he had made when he had left Pat. Edge has a lot of groveling in his future, trying to make his way into Pat’s, and Pat’s daughter Emma’s life.

Blurb: Professional football player Hunter Davis is learning that saying he’s gay is very different from actively being in a relationship with another man – especially in the eyes of his teammates and fans. So when Hunter needs a personal assistant to keep him organized, he asks for a woman in order to prevent tongues from wagging.

Montgomery Willis badly needs to find work before he loses everything. There’s just one position at the agency where he applies, but the problem is, he’s not a woman. And he knows nothing about football. Still, Hunter gives him a chance, but only because Monty’s desperate.

Monty soon proves his worth by saving Hunter’s bacon on an important promotional shoot, and Hunter realizes he might have someone special working for him – in more ways than one. Monty’s feelings come to the surface during an outing in the park when Hunter decides to teach Monty a bit about the game, and pictures surface of them in some questionable positions. Hunter is reminded that knowing he’s gay and seeing evidence in the papers are two very different things for the other players, and he might have to choose between two loves: football and Monty.

Review: I absolutely adore Andrew Grey’s books. No matter the subject manner he makes interesting characters that are easy to relate to – he can make me laugh and cry in the same book. Seriously, this dude knows how to get me right in the feels. And if there is anything better than that, it is probably listening to John Solo narrate the audio book for an Andrew Grey story. John Solo is probably my favorite narrators because he just nails the emotion and tension of pretty much any character.

Enough gushing… onto the actual story.

Hunter Davis is a pro footballer – and openly gay at the peak of his career. With that comes a massive ego and a guy who would lose his head if it weren’t attached to his body. His agent has had it with Hunter’s inability to be on time or to behave and therefore forced a personal assistant to keep him in line. And because Hunter is something of a man-whore even Hunter insists if he is to have an assistant then it has to be a woman – he really couldn’t afford a scandal that could screw up his reputation.

This is where Monty comes in. Monty is a quiet, organized type of guy – he is just what Hunter needs, besides the fact he is a man. But Monty is desperate for a job and manages to get an interview after speaking to a frustrated recruiting agency and Hunter’s actual manager. Monty may be instantly attracted to Hunter, being the hot, fit footballer that he is. However, Hunter is a bit of ass and is annoyed that Monty has no clue about football or who Hunter even is.

With the scene set, the sparks flying and a steady pace I love listening to every moment of this book. Definitely a win for Andrew Grey.

Blurb: Theatrical agent Payton Gowan meets with former classmate – and prospective client – Beckett Huntington, with every intention of brushing him off. Beckett not only made high school a living hell for Payton, but he was also responsible for dashing Payton’s dreams of becoming a Broadway star.

Aspiring actor Beckett Huntington arrives in New York City on a wing and a prayer, struggling to land his first gig. He knows scoring Payton Gowan as an agent would be a great way to get his foot in the door, but with their history, getting the chance is going to be a tough sell.

Against Payton’s better judgment, he agrees to give Beckett a chance, only to discover – to his amazement – that Beckett actually does have talent.

Payton signs Beckett but can’t trust him – until Payton’s best friend, Val, is attacked. When Beckett is there for him, Payton begins to see another side to his former bully. Amidst attempts by a jealous agent to sabotage Beckett’s career and tear apart their blossoming love, Payton and Beckett must learn to let go of the past if they have any chance at playing out a future together.

Review: I love enemies in high school to lovers as adults’ type of book – I love that sometimes there was a reason for being “enemies” or like in the case of Between Loathing and Love, the two MCs were enemies through a misunderstanding and teenaged lack of communication. For me Andrew Grey is an automatic read/audio. I know that automatically I will have something that I will enjoy, though rating will be between 3 and 5.

Between Loathing and Love features Payton Gowan, a theatrical agent in New York after he quickly realized as a younger man that he was not good enough to make it as an actor. One day while at the gym with his best friend, Payton bumps into the man that made high school hell for him, Beckett Huntington. Then, because this is a book and this is what usually happens, Payton meets Beckett again, this time as a potential client at the agency where he works.

The story itself is simple. The guys need to get over their past. Payton needs to be able to juggle his career, his job at the agency, with the new budding relationship he has with Beckett. Throw in an awesome best friend, a voice of reason from another experienced agent and another agent who is jealous of Payton’s success and you have a recipe for an enjoyable book.

I have to also give a special shout out to the narration by Tristan James. Tristan James is a new narrator to me (I’m pretty sure he is anyway), but it was wonderful to hear his voice. He nailed Payton and Beckett, as well as doing a great job on the minor characters, especially Val. He deals really well with the emotion from Val after he is attacked and Payton steps in, along with Beckett.

Blurb: Robert Morton is in for the surprise of a lifetime. He’ll marry it.

That’s where Robert comes in.

Daniel has the money, Robert has the name, and both of them know they can help each other out. But their marriage of convenience has the potential to become a real love match—unless a threat to Daniel’s business ruins everything.

Review: I love nothing more than reading a sweet story by Andrew Grey. The guy knows how to pull at the heart strings and make you cry at least once within a story. The fact that this story is based around the English aristocracy with a marriage of convenience becoming something more, I knew that this was the book for me (albeit a modern tale, I do have a penchant for historical MF Georgian period romances every once in a while).

The story itself is very simple. Heck, I’ve already done the summary a couple sentences ago. While I wish there had been either a bit more plot development that lead to the “I love you”, or more character development, or both – I loved reading this story for what it is.

Robert Morton is a Cornish barrister who leads a quiet life, happily working in his country law practice, close to his widowed mother. Then his life changes when he finds out that not only did his mother have a family – she had a brother who was an Earl and had not approved of his sister marrying a “commoner”. As I said, for those into stories with Earls and Dukes, this is kind of the usual trope.

Over on the other side of the Atlantic is New York businessman and someone who is very much looked down by the old money of New York society, Daniel Fabian. These feelings are made even stronger when we receives an invitation for his high school reunion – a place that wasn’t exactly welcoming since he was a scholarship holder in an elite school for the kids of the rich and powerful.

For both men a marriage of convenience will be a simple solution so that they can be what society expects of them.

I found that the point in the story where love conquers all was too rushed for me, but I loved everything else about the book.

Blurb: Life has been grinding Dayne Mills down almost for as long as he can remember. First he lost the love of his life in an accident that also left him with a permanent injury, and then his mother passed away a year later. When his house burns to the ground, it’s the last straw. He can’t take any more, and if it wasn’t for kind and handsome firefighter Lawson Martin offering him a hand up and a place to stay, he doesn’t know what he’d do. Dayne would love for his relationship with Lawson to evolve into something beyond charity, but he knows going after a man so far out of his league will only lead to yet more heartache. It’s best to just keep his mind on his research.

It’s that research that leads Dayne to an old student journal that not only provides clues to the Native American heritage Lawson has been searching for, but chronicles a century-old love story. The tale that unfolds might be just what Dayne and Lawson need to remind them that no matter how dark life becomes, love can find a way to shine through.

Review: This is one of those books where I went in expecting to love it. a) I love Andrew Grey’s writing: it is so easy for me to relate to his writing, even if I am a single, straight, female. I love how he does sweet romance is totally relatable, real life situations. I love he manages to make me both laugh and cry in the course of a single story. b) I knew I would enjoy this because I loved the first book, Rekindled Flame. c) Firemen, sexy firemen, are involved in the story, enough said there.

If you haven’t read book one, don’t worry, it’s not really a prerequisite. There is no overarching story line. However, I think it would be good to go back purely because we do get to see a glimpse of Morgan and Richard and it made me want to go back and reread Rekindled Flame.

The formula for Cleansing Flame, just as it was for Rekindled Flame: one fireman meets a broken man (both physically and mentally), meets him again at a fire when his life goes up in smoke, just to pile on the bad luck.

Here, Lawson is the fireman. He happens to meet Dayne, the broken man, when Lawson tries to do some research on his family history and Dayne is doing research for an assignment. Dayne has had a run of bad luck – a car accident killed the man he loved some years ago, his mother died the year before and only the same day he meets Lawson he loses the home that he and his mother had brought. On top of that, Dayne still has severe pain in his leg from the accident that killed his boyfriend. Now Dayne is determined to become a teacher, even if he feels a little odd for being, seemingly, the oldest guy at college.

Lawson becomes Dayne’s knight in shining armor. It is seriously sweet. The guys also have mutual friends – Morgan and Richard of book 1 – so it’s kind of expected that they would meet. Lawson proceeds to sweep Dayne off his feet and the guys get to know each other as they fall into a romance that makes you sigh happily.

Review:  I cannot believe that I have not been reading this author’s work before.  Damn, not only was this perfection in my eyes, but the characters just rocked it.  Now I admit that I started with this book but as soon as I finish this review I am going to start with the very first book in this series.

Brock had two boyfriends that he had been serious about, but both had ended badly in his eyes.  The first one was in college and it was because Vinny hadn’t been out to anyone. The other was to Clive, who was more into pain than anything else.  Now in my eyes Clive could fall off the planet.  Now here he was in the job he wanted and things were going good.  He just hadn’t expected his first traffic stop to be Vinny.  Then another stop found him two small children in the trunk of a sports car.  Guess who their uncle is, yes you guess it right our very own Vinny.

Vincent was shocked to learn he had a niece right along with his nephew.  However not as shocked as he was when he found out what his sister had done.  It is up to him, with some help from our sexy cop to show these kids what a good home is.  Abey and Penny are going to need to help our two sexy men also.  However if you want to know more about these amazing people, well pick up the book.

I always did love a man with a gun, but Brock is one amazing man.  He is all cop but he has one of the biggest hearts around.  He is tender, sweet and very caring towards all.  His heart also breaks when those around him are hurt.  You can see this when he first meets the kids, and it will bring a tear to your eyes.  At first Vincent came off as a punk in away, but then the further in you get you can see that he is a very sweet young man whose heart is just as big.  I had a lot of fun reading this and can definitely tell you that this is going to be one of those books you read more than once.

I loved this story and would definitely recommend it to all.  Way to go Andrew, keep them coming.

Blurb: Fisher Moreland has been cast out of his family because they can no longer deal with his issues. Fisher is bipolar and living day to day, trying to manage his condition, but he hasn’t always had much control over his life and has self-medicated with whatever he could find.

JD Burnside has been cut off from his family because of a scandal back home. He moved to Carlisle but brought his Southern charm and warmth along with him. When he sees Fisher on a park bench on a winter’s night, he invites Fisher to join him and his friends for a late-night meal.

At first Fisher doesn’t know what to make of JD, but he slowly comes out of his shell. And when Fisher’s job is threatened because of a fire, JD’s support and care is more than Fisher ever thought he could expect. But when people from Fisher’s past turn up in town at the center of a resurgent drug epidemic, Fisher knows they could very well sabotage his budding relationship with JD.

Review:  I read this series out of order but it doesn’t really seem to matter though.  I mean you are introduced to the previous guys but the story itself is based on the two characters.  When I read book five, I had to jump and grab the other four books.  It is a very entertaining series from what I can tell and just about rocked my world.

JD has basically been cast out by his family and when I say family I mean his mother.  He actually has that in common with Fisher.  Fisher had been kicked out because of his injury that made him bi-polar.  His ex had dumped him because he couldn’t deal with it and his mother is just a plain old bitty.  When JD sees Fisher sitting out in the cold on a bench, he wants to help him out.  He just had not really expected to find out he wants so much more.

Fisher had been injured in a car accident that left him with partial memory loss and bi-polar.  He lost his family and his boyfriend, and didn’t think there was anything left for him in that sense.  So when a sexy cop asks him to a late dinner, he jumps at it.  Then a fire leaves Fisher without a job temporarily and things just keep getting harder for him.  If you want the full details then I would suggest reading the book.

Let’s just say that this is one series that will be read many times over.  Not only do you get sexy cops with guns, but danger, suspense and a sexy man.  It was fully detailed and the action just kept on coming.  I had a lot of fun reading this and can’t wait for more books in this series.  Way to go Andrew, keep the book coming.
