Review: Each book in The Oddities collection features Derwin and Elliot. To enjoy the overall story arc and crossover characters, I would recommend reading the series in sequential order.

I have had the pleasure of reading J.T.’s first book in this series and when I heard this one was coming out, I just had to grab it.  The characters are quite unique and a very fresh idea.  I thought the characters were not only strong but you can feel the way they feel for those around them.  This story caught my attention from the moment I started reading and kept it all the way to the very end.  I am usually not a fan of very long stories but this one was so exciting that I knew it would become a favorite real soon.

Derwin is an oddity and a bounty hunter.  He hunts those who cause pain and death, including other oddities and demons.  Three years ago his boyfriend was murdered and it took him that long to find out who did it.  He had finally solved his murder three weeks ago and was now embracing his life with Elliot.  Elliot was a rent boy and has his own oddity.  He can see visions from strong feelings.  Now he worked with Derwin and his boss.  He is also hiding from a gang lord that wants him for his very own.

Another friend in the office is scared for his missing son.  She asks Derwin for help and it leads him and Elliot in to some major danger.  For some more juicy details about this story, pick up the book.  Let’s just say it has some major kinky and hot sex scenes, danger, death, excitement, suspense and so much more.

I had a lot of fun reading this and can’t wait to see what other dangers these two sexy men can get into.  I loved the characters and their story just kept me on the edge of my seat.  I can guarantee that you will love this book.  I would definitely recommend it.

Review: This the second book in the Iron Eagle Gym series. Bran loves Tyrone, but due to his very low self-esteem he does not think he is good enough for him. When after a doctor’s visit he is told he has a brain tumor he spirals downward even further.

When Tyrone learns of the brain tumor he feels he let Bran down as a Dom. He does the only thing he can and tries to be there for him as much as he can.

I really felt for Bran as he feels so low about himself then to hear you have a brain tumor was devastating. I can’t imagine how he felt with all the stress of everything going on, on top of it.

Lance and Tide are a great couple. I love that fact that Lance is still learning what it means to be a sub as opposed to automatically knowing like in most books with someone new to the scene.

It was a great read with plenty of drama and hot sex to heat up the pages.

Review: Max loves his job as a chemist and creating new protective materials. He harbors a secret crush for his boos Blake. The problem, Max is somewhat shy so he doesn’t really say anything.

Blake has noticed Max since he started work though I am unsure why he took so long to approach him. The way he went about easing Max into the BDSM lifestyle was brilliant and patient. I loved both these characters as they seemed to complement the other.

Well written and draws you in from the start.

Great read with some hot sex.

Risk Aware by Amelia C. Gormley

Length: 310 pages

Publisher: Riptide Publishing (May 9th 2016)

Heat Level: Moderate

Blurb: Tattoo artist Geoff Gilchrest is convinced his life is some sort of cosmic joke. Why else would a hemophiliac also be a masochist? He’s given himself more than one elbow bleed since puberty just doing what guys do when alone and bored, so forget about whips and chains. How many partners would contemplate playing with someone even a mild flogging could kill?

Gallery owner Robin Brady knows he can deliver what Geoff needs: to be taken to the edge of danger but never beyond. But Robin came to Saugatuck to get away from the leather scene and heal from a betrayal by his former sub, so he’s not sure he should get involved with Geoff. His ambivalence isn’t helped by the fact that Geoff’s unwillingness to communicate about his well-being hits Robin in some very raw places.

Geoff’s hemophilia isn’t the obstacle he thinks it is. Instead, a lack of trust—on both their parts—is what could end them before they have a chance to begin.

Prime’s Review:  ♥♥♥♥3.5

Risk Aware is the first book that I’ve read by Amelia C. Gormley and I have to be direct in saying that it has left me feeling rather torn. There is nothing wrong per se about the writing style to warrant the 3 heart rating. In fact, I would be willing to read more books by the author. Instead, my issues stem mostly from my increasing dislike for one of the main characters.

So let’s set the scene. Geoff has hemophilia (I thought it was spelt heamophilia, but whatever), but he has a bit of a kink for BDSM. Something that he hasn’t had a chance to explore because no Dom wants to take the risk (which is fair enough, he shouldn’t be angry about that). By the same token, he’s a tattoo artist who cannot find any tattooist willing to tattoo him.

At a quiet-ish getaway Geoff meets Robin. Robin (who has a fascinating and underutilized back story), is a Dom who after a past betrayal from a Sub more than anything demands truth from his bed partner. Yet at the same time he wants to get away from the BDSM scene and ready to move away from the city to open his own art gallery (his parents were successful art dealers so he inherited the smarts and the contacts).

The story is essentially these guys getting together and overcoming issues that accompany a hemophiliac who longs to be dominated.

As you can tell by the brackets with extra text, I just couldn’t hold back. I had two major problems with this story. Which I think had so much potential,  when I first started it, to be a 5 heart novel. But 2 things happened:

  • Geoff – Geoff is just a problem to me. I think it was the way in which he was written in general. Sometimes he is very mindful and helpful to Robin about his disease. Other times, he would act like a spoiled brat if Robin didn’t see things his way. Yes, I understand and realize that like real people with the disease, he is entitled to his frustrations and even sometimes hold back on people. But, I feel that when he says (not direct quotes), “you didn’t need to know for this to be consensual” and then later says “we need to be careful about me hitting my head against a wall” I just got pissed off.

In this way I wonder if his character is as developed as it could be. Mostly because you get a sense of some sort of depression by how he acts. There was no reason to make him act like a spoiled brat, when it added unnecessary drama. It made him annoying, rather than made me feel for him.

Of course, like all lifelong diseases, sufferers are prone to depression and it just made me wonder. Personally, I would find it interesting what a person with hemophilia feels about this. In the acknowledgments the Gormley explains part of her research was speaking to gay men with hemophilia, but I wonder how much creative license was necessary for this character. Geoff is definitely unique.

  • Ok, so Geoff was a big problem for me. But the other issue that I had, which I found rather disappointing, was that Robin’s back story was so fascinating, but we found out so little of it beyond the broad facts. Some facts popped up out of nowhere when it was important for us to know and quite simply, that frustrated me. I really liked Robin. He was a great character and his compassion seemed to know no bounds. I just wanted to know more about him.

In so many ways I relate to Robin because for the most part, I wholeheartedly agreed with what he saw as definite issues about Geoff’s health, that Geoff brushed off. That affected me further because sometimes I didn’t feel the attraction between the Geoff and Robin.  As much as I wanted it to be exploding off the page (again, potential). The BDSM was also interesting in terms of logistics, but I’m not sure if it would be enough to hold the attention of fans of BDSM romance. Generally, for me I just see so much missing potential throughout the story. This is an interesting story and I do think that there are definitely people who will enjoy this one.

Aerin’s Review: ♥♥♥3 Hearts

I waited to review this book because I couldn’t make up my mind. Did I love it? Absolutely not, and based on other reviews out there, it seems like I’ll be one of the few who doesn’t think this book was awesome. I found the idea of a hemophiliac who’s also a masochist alluring and expected it to be hard to pull off. But, I thought at worst it would bring attention to this condition, which I think is a bright idea.

What I definitely didn’t expect was for the masochism/sadism part to be delivered spot on. While the medical condition was secondary to the denial and childishness of Geoff, our hemophiliac main character.

Not only was he bitter and pissed off at life for having to deal with hemophilia, he was purposefully not doing the infusions he desperately needs in order to live somewhat like a healthy human being. Geoff isn’t a child, far from it, so why was he constantly putting himself in danger? I understand bitterness, but I can’t accept stupidity.

When Geoff and his best friend take a weeklong vacation to a BDSM convention, Geoff meets Robin, a sadist who would love nothing more than to make Geoff hurt. Geoff isn’t handsome or beautiful, yet something about him speaks to Robin, and Robin can’t stay away.

What I couldn’t get past was the fact that Geoff put himself in so much danger by playing with strangers and wanting to have a scene with Robin without even having the courtesy of informing them that what constitutes normal impact play for most people can be deadly to him. Especially without the infusing treatments he’s supposed to take daily, but he’s been skipping for several days at a time.

The dirty talk and the inventive ways Robin was able to hurt Geoff without really hurting him or putting him in danger were the best parts out of this whole book. Yes, Robin does find out about Geoff’s condition, but the fact that Geoff wasn’t honest about it right off the bet is plain stupidity. And I can’t stand stupid, selfish characters!!!

Top that off with Robin’s pity party and his lack of confidence, due to a former relationship gone wrong and my interest was gone. never to be found again.

There is a happy ending, and both Robin and Geoff overcome the lack of trust and the unwelcome misunderstandings that arise during the course of their relationship. If you are willing or able to overlook Geoff’s selfishness and the fact that their relationship starts with a total lack of trust, then you might be part of the majority that loved this book.

I’m content being part of the minority this time around.

Review: This is the second book in Dark Space.

I have to say I loved the entire book. It was great to see how Brady works through things throughout. Then Cam and Brady’s connection is restored only to discover it’s not quite right.

It was mind-boggling how well and deep this story takes the reader into understanding how the mind works in regards to relationships, tense situations, etc. I was impressed by how well the story flowed smoothly and the details throughout.

Intense, yet powerful. This book packs quite a punch. It keeps you reading until the very end.

The only thing I found I did not like was the cliffhanger at the end, as I have not heard anything about a third book. I certainly hope there will be though, if not for anything else to answer questions that were unanswered.

Review: I actually had to read this twice because at first it came off as a bit wrong to me, but the second time my eyes were more open and I had so much fun with these guys. Although I must admit Crow was about to get on my nerves. Not to mention Regis needs to be smacked quite a bit. Now I can see why Crow was being an ass.

When I first saw the cover to this book I had thought that it was an M/F romance, because the guy really looked like a girl and I was about to put the book back. But then realized who it was and let’s just say things went better after that. Now the blurb just doesn’t do the story justice and was a bit off, however the story was rocking.

Once I started reading, for the second time I came to the conclusion that the characters and plot were well detailed and pretty flush. I loved the bit of humor in it a bit more.

This is one of those stories that will keep you on the edge of your seat throughout the whole book. At first I thought that I was going to have to smack Crow for being such a jerk, but he turned around quite a bit. Crow is a bit insecure in my eyes. He thinks that no one can love him because of the fact that his mom had created him from a crow. However he is definitely wrong about that.

Whereas Regis is the one that I really wanted to smack. Here are two great guys coming to save his ass and he acts like a selfish little boy. It felt like he was just using Crow and basically says as much. He could have been better in this story that is my opinion.

Now Jonathan is in love with both men, and goes out of his way to save Regis. He even tries to deny his feelings for Crow, at least to himself.

Now the buildup was intense and let’s just say hot, but the guys didn’t really go the way I had wanted. Their feelings come out in this story but I felt more for Crow then the others in this one. In this book there was great potential to be a hot story but it doesn’t end the way I felt it should have.

I hope that the next book has the three coming together because damn there is some heat there.

I was expecting more threesome action, but I am afraid that Regis was the downer in this book. I am afraid that I did not connect well with him, so I do hope that the next book fixes that.

I look forward to seeing what goes on later.

Blurb: Master Saul is captivated by the beautifully submissive Kenneth and the boy’s love of pain. Unfortunately, Kenneth belongs to Master Preston.

It’s 1926 and as one of the founding members of the Hampton Road Club, Master Saul Liebowitz has enjoyed the charms of many willing submissives over the years. One of the newer submissives to the club has captured his attention more than anyone has in a long time. Kenneth is tall, muscular and also seems to have a greater love of pain than most. If only Kenneth didn’t already belong to another Master.

After Kenneth’s Master died years before, he allowed himself to be taken in by the promises of Master Preston. As time has gone by, Preston has become increasingly crueler to the point where Kenneth fears for his life. They’ve recently joined a sadomasochism club and Kenneth can’t help but yearn for the handsome Master the other boys speak so highly of—Master Saul.

Preston takes things too far one night, and when Saul and his good friend, Master Aaron, do some investigating, they realize that Kenneth might be in real danger. Amidst turmoil at the club over whether there should be rules to keep the boys safe and Preston’s play for power, Saul searches for a way to save Kenneth from what he’s sure is a deadly situation.

Both men fight for what they believe to be the right thing. When they find their way to one another, a wonderful new world opens up to them. But there’s one man out there who refuses to let go of the old ways. Kenneth is his property and Master Preston won’t give him up.

Review: This is book two and best read in order.

Ever since his best friend Aaron has found his perfect submissive and love, Saul is feeling lonely. He thinks because of his age he will never find what he desires most. He admires the new submissive, Kenneth and the way he handles pain.  He wishes the man was his, but he is taken by a new member, Preston that he doesn’t like.

Preston is violent and doesn’t allow his subs to call for mercy. He is mean and doesn’t treat them as people. One of the subs flees from him and one of the other submissives notices. After an investigation, Saul discovered that Kenneth is being threatened and held against his will.  He and some of the other Dominates try to come up with a way to free him, but it will cost Saul some secrets he didn’t want to reveal and possibly the Hampton Road Club.

I loved this book. I loved all the characters and liked that we got more of Aaron, Sam, Francesco, Theodore, and Thomas. The plot is better in this book than the first, and the sex is pretty hot. I have the third ready to read! I can’t wait to see whose story is next!

The only thing I wish was more of would be the 1920’s theme. To me, it kind of got lost in this book but having said that…The book was still awesome!

Warning for the squeamish:  There are rape and dubious consent scenes, but Morticia handled with finesse.

If you like BDSM, D’s relationships, Dubious consent, good romance, Older men/younger men, and some scorching hot man-sex you will love this series!

For me, it’s just another chance to hang out with my friends, even if they think I’m too dumb to understand the important work we’re supposedly doing.

But maybe I’m not as dumb as they think—at least I know when I’ve got a good thing going. Which is why I just moved in with my dom. Ryan’s awesome possum. He’s really short, never makes me feel stupid, and is up for anything. One word: costumes. Two more words: women’s underwear. We’re all about the lace, no leather.

Except when we do pony play. We first tried it as a joke, but turns out I’m ballin’ at it. Now PetPlayFest is coming up, and I wanna take down the Subs Club’s archrival, Cinnamon the ponygirl, in the horse show.

My friends think I’m spending too much time with Ryan and ignoring my obligations to the group. But since when is friendship an obligation? Ryan’s my first serious relationship, and I want to take it . . . seriously. At some point I need to think about my future, not my past.

Review: I’ve read many J.A. Rock books and I have to say this series is definitely her best writing yet. I’m not sure whether she found her true calling or maybe the characters won’t stop nagging her until she tells their stories, but these books seem to me like they’re written from the heart.

Kamen has been one of my favorite characters in this series and I found his hilarious and original songs to be a constant source of amusement. Kamen has been the easy-going one, the least smart, and the one his friends counted on no matter what.

Kamen seemed like a pretty simple character so far, sort of “what you see is what you get”, but we all know still waters run deep. That couldn’t be any more accurate when it comes to Kamen. Kamen has the biggest heart of all, he loves his friends, loves his mother, he loves Ryan, and he wants nothing more than for everyone to get along and be like a big happy family.

We know from Pain Slut that Kamen and Ryan are going to be together, but I never expected the tension their relationship brought to Kamen and David’s friendship. There’s jealousy and hurt feelings, and Kamen’s heart is broken along with mine, because Kamen should NEVER be anything but happy.

Ryan and Kamen’s relationship is very different from the previous two couples’; this isn’t so much the case of I’m the Dom, you’re the sub, drop your trousers so I can stripe your ass. Kamen and Ryan are more about lace panties and sexy dresses, scorching hot role play and even some pony games. They have their own brand of kink very different from what we’ve gotten so far, which is absolutely great!

I really loved Kamen’s honest, hilarious and very much real reactions to seeing himself in women’s lace panties. What I found absolutely fantastic was that I totally forgot Kamen isn’t a real person! I mean I had to remind myself over and over again that Rock has written this character and this isn’t a story told by a real-life character, and trust me when I say this doesn’t happen to me often!

While I liked Ryan and Kamen as a couple, I wasn’t too sure of my feelings for Ryan as an individual. I thought he was too possessive of Kamen and he never truly tried to understand and become a part of the friendship with the rest of the guys.

But at the same time all this conflict allowed us to see just how many layers Kamen has, how mature his thinking is regarding their friend’s death, what his hopes and desires and dreams are regarding the future, and how deeply and completely he loves Ryan. I loved Kamen to pieces, but at times I wished someone else for him, someone other than Ryan.

This was a great book, fantastic even, but not exactly what I expected to get considering this is Kamen’s book. He has been the funniest and the quirkiest of them all, so I expected more genuine humor. There was certainly moments that were funny.

I thought there was too much focus on the pony competition. I understood the reason behind Kamen’s motivation, but it wasn’t something I could connect with. And the competition itself was leaning more towards ridiculous than real, with eye rolling moments and incredulous WTF moments as well.

This was a great book but my least favorite so far; my favorite book remains David and D’s book.

Blurb: An untrained warlock is a dangerous man to love.

On his twenty-first birthday, Evrain Brookes discovers he is an elemental warlock. The spell suppressing his talent lifts and he has to get used to a whole new existence. The protection that kept him safe during his childhood is gone, his skills are wild and uncontrolled and there are those that seek to use him for their own gain.

Evrain’s grandmother is a witch, his godfather another warlock. Between them they do their best to keep Evrain on the right path. He learns that in order to gain control of his formidable powers he will need to ‘channel’ through a life partner, a process that only happens with consent and through love. But how will he ever find a man prepared to put up with a Dominant warlock for a boyfriend?

Dominic Castine has no idea that Evrain’s grandmother sees him as a prospective partner for Evrain. He tends her garden and she teaches him about herbs–a tradeoff they both enjoy. He is drawn to Evrain’s charismatic presence but doesn’t understand why he wants to drop to his knees and submit to him.

When Agatha is murdered, Evrain and Dominic are thrown together as she manipulates them from beyond the grave. Dominic becomes the pawn in a terrifying game between warlocks whose powers he barely comprehends.

In the end, lives will depend on his courage, his willingness to grant Evrain control and the power of love.

Reader Advisory: This book contains scenes of kidnap and a reference to attempted sexual assault.

Review: This author is new to me so I wasn’t sure what to expect from the story. I was actually hoping for a lighter story with a bit of twist, however this one is a bit different then what I had expected.

Evrain’s grandmother had decided that the moment he was born she would bind his abilities till he was older. She was afraid that he would be taken. He was to be the strongest warlock around. He won’t be able to channel his powers the way he should till he finds a mate.

Dominic is clueless to it all. He loves working in the garden but somehow the old bat wants him to take an interest in Evrain. Even after she is murdered, she is controlling them both.

I like the twists to this story mixed in with the mystery, but it didn’t flow for me. It didn’t keep my attention like it should have which was disappointing. I hope that the second book comes off a bit more in tune.

Other than that it was well written and the characters were charming if not just a bit quirky. I can’t wait to see how the second book turns out.

Review: Heath is book 3 of the Invitation Only series, I think you could read it without reading the others since there is good backstory drop, but I believe you would enjoy it better if you have read the other two.

Heath is a new Dom at Invitation only. He is immediately taken by the pretty bartender Micah. When Micah is brought in for his demonstration he is ecstatic, until he finds out that Micah isn’t into the BDSM scene.  When Heath finds out that Micah’s boyfriend is a druggie he sees his chance.

I really liked this story. My only issue is I felt it focused more on Micah than Heath.  I would have loved to have seen more scenes with Heath. Now having said that, I loved the drag show scenes and felt like I was there watching and loved Ricky, Mav and Mams.  There were a lot of characters in this story.

Though I love characters and all of these I think it was just too many for such a short story. I have to say Patricia Logan has a way of developing very intriguing characters, and writes some smoking hot sex scenes.

If you like sexy bartenders, hot cowboy Doms, BDSM, Drag Queens, knights in shining armour, and smoking hot man-sex this is definitely for you!

Review: This is the 5th and final book in the Guards of Folsom series.  There are many characters and lots of wrap-ups from the previous books.  This book begins with a proposal, a funeral and then gets going with the kidnapping of Jamie. The entire group gets together and uses their skills to find and bring Jamie home. Then there is recovery. If you are already a fan of this series, I am sure you have been waiting for it, and it won’t disappoint you. I haven’t read any of it and loved it. I will be going back and reading the rest of this series.

I felt like the book was a bit long and all of the inner thoughts by Tek kind of put me off a bit. They seemed a bit poetic for an ex-motorcycle gang leader.  Otherwise, I thought the book was really good.

So if you like BDSM, bondage, motorcycle gangs, and the tight brotherhood of men, lots of angst and lots of hot Man-sex this is for you. Don’t forget to start with book one!

Blurb: A feisty, untrained Dominant shows up at Hampton Road. Could he be the right man who Colin’s been saving himself for?
Submissive Colin loves his new life and job at The Hampton Road Club. He doesn’t mean to make the staff angry when he reorganizes everything or frustrate the available Masters by never letting them touch him. He only wants to serve someone, to make them happy, but he’s also waiting for the right man the way his grandmother had advised him to do before she died.

Another night, another brawl. Roddy had hoped that Hollywood would have better male prospects than Louisville when it came to playing rough. When Roddy’s latest would-be conquest threatens him with bodily harm, Roddy is chased right into the path of two of Hampton Road’s Masters, Ned and Aaron. They describe a wonderful club to him, where sadomasochistic men can enjoy each other, hidden safely behind the walls of an elegant mansion.

The moment Colin and Roddy spot each other, they fall hard and fast. While Master Saul is thrilled that Colin has finally found someone, what do any of them really know about their new guest?
It seems that Saul’s fears are ungrounded until tragedy strikes in Roddy’s world. It’s then that the validity of Colin and Roddy’s new love is truly tested.

Was their bond real, or did Roddy have another agenda he’d kept secret all along?

Review: If the cover isn’t hot enough to make you pick this up, and the blurb doesn’t entice you more than let me tell you…just do it! That is if you like mild BDSM and very sweet romance.

I fell in love sweet little Colin in the last book when he was brought in by Ned. Who wouldn’t love a darling little fella that wants to save himself until he meets the right man, yet yearns to taste the life he sees around him? Plus, as sweet as he is there is a touch of mischief and his OCD is too cute.

Now let’s toss in a young man who likes sex a bit rough and ends up getting roughed up every time he tries to fulfill his need. Being gay in the 20’s is bad enough…liking things a little rougher is…well, rougher.

We get a bit more Aaron and Ned and, of course, Saul. I loved seeing Saul’s fatherly instincts come to the forefront. This book is a bit milder than the rest BDSM and Sadomasochism wise as we have to men learning to love and to explore this side of themselves.
If you like a really sweet romance, the 1920’s setting, first times, true love, love at first sight and some pretty hot man-sex you will love this.

Note: This is book 5 in the series and is best read in order though this one you could possibly follow OK, I still recommend you read them in order to understand and know all the characters better.

Review: Tomas has recently been hurt by the man he loved. His last sub left him for another. He has had his eye on Linus but realizing too late his feelings, Linus gets hurt. Hurt enough to make him afraid of dominate men, and the Hampton Road Club.

Linus was wary of the Hampton Road Club when his date brought him there and still not sure why Ned thought this would be the place for Linus. When he was under the control of master Thomas, Linus felt things he never thought he would…or should. Then things went to hell in a handbasket for Linus. (you need to read book two to see what happened.)

Both men need something the other could give. Both men are afraid to reach out and take what is right in front of them. Will Linus ever be able to submit again? Will Thomas ever be able to love again?

The Fear of Surrender is book three of the Hampton Road Club, and you do need to read this series in order as there are recurring characters and the story lines. This book you especially need to read book two. I like how each Dominate in this series is so different. Each has his needs, and it shows. Thomas doesn’t want a 24/7 sub like Saul and Aaron.

I also liked that this book stepped out of the club a lot and showed more about the feelings of these two men. I loved Thomas before now I am even more in love!

This book did have more of the 1920’s feel I missed in the last book with the houses and cars and other nuances. I absolutely love this series and am ready to dive into the next book.

Warning this is BDSM. There are some fetishes in each book. This one has figging and piercing. Both scenes were tastefully written and scorching hot.
